Jerry Kirkhart

Jerry is a retired biology/zoology instructor who used photography in his teaching career for 42 years, which included 25 years in high school and 17 years at the college level. He has a Master’s in Biology, and has been recognized state wide for his teaching in high school and represented his college in a statewide teachig competition as the Hayward Award nominee.

Jerry has been involved with Digital Photo Walks since day one and specializes in various hikes dealing with macrophotography and identification of both flora and fauna of the local area. He is a docent for the Central Coast Natural History Association and the Pecho Trail leading hikes to the Point San Luis Lighthouse. A few of the local hikes he leads involve marine biology, the Elfin Forest, macro photography, and several others. Jerry uses photos while giving Bird Presentations to local colleges and also for teaching elementary through Elderhostel groups and plankton presentations using a videomicroscopy unit he built for the museum. He uses photos for teaching an Intertidal Zonation class for OSHER participants through Cal Poly University.

Jerry feels photography has so much to offer to enhance and enjoy at many levels. We are so fortunate to live in an area that has so much to offer for photographers. His goal is to help others identify what they are photographing as well as just having fun with their photography.
