SLR Basics and Beyond
with Pat Brown. Saturday 9-11am
Location: Natural History Museum
Have you recently purchased a single lens reflex (SLR) camera? Or do you own a point and shoot camera and have thought about moving up to a SLR? Would you like to know more about the settings on your camera and how an SLR works? A SLR camera can seem complicated, so this lecture class is designed to teach the basic concepts.
This class will be illustrated with many photographs to demonstrate the concepts. The different types of shooting modes on an SLR camera will be covered. You will learn the three points of the exposure triangle: ISO, shutter speed and aperture and how they are related. The class will explain the effects of different focal lengths and how to control depth of field and perspective. Most concepts discussed will apply to either film or digital, however, the discussion of how to interpret histograms will be for digital users. Fill flash and optional equipment will also be described.
