Go Pro in a Day – Digital Fundamentals for Selling Images and Creating Your Market Niche

with Dean Sullivan. Friday 2-5p, continuing after 6pm

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced, Beginners welcome, but may be a bit overwhelmed.

Equipment: Digital SLR and detachable flash.

Prerequisite: Class is structured assuming a basic understanding of photography (aperture, shutter speed, white balance, depth of field, etc) and some familiarity with PhotoShop.

Three-hour lecture covers:

  • A.) File management – Preshoot plans, backups, asset management and cleaning up your workflow and more
  • B.) Image manipulation – tripping the shutter is just the start of a good image – take your image from so-so to a seller
  • C.) Working with Clients – Customizing your approach for different categories of clients (families, commercial, personal work), as well as contracts, copyright & licensing, pricing and more including when and how to fire a client
  • D.) Finding Your Niche and Standing Out From the Crowd – Who is your client? Marketing to your customer, not yourself, while incorporating your passion
  • E.) Plan Your Shoot and Shoot Your Plan – lecture prep for the evening’s on location shoot-real people in real settings. Maximizing the ideal circumstance and making the most of less than ideal circumstances.

One-hour break

Location photo shoot using on and off-camera flash. Scouting your location, making best use of the site, taking the fear out of being photographed. We’ll also look at back up plans – when your plans fall apart (weather, wildlife, and the unexpected)
