Bluff Nature Photo Walk
with Paul O'Connor and Rich Hansen. Saturday 10a - 12p
Take an easy 1 mile walk with approx 50' elevation gain, along the
Bluffs at Montana de Oro State. This is the most widely used trail in the park, and
loaded with photo opportunities, and as such, a photographer leader will be
available on the hike also. Along the way we will see local
birds, both land and shore birds, a variety of plants and old Monterey
Shale formations weathered perfectly for picture taking. I will
discuss several historical areas and bring old photos that were taken
at the turn of the century of the area and its dairy operation. If the
tide is right we will highlight our walk with a look at our own local
blowhole. At times it can spurt out a blow of 20' or more, many people
(locals included) have never seen this blowhole. At Coralina Cove the
tide will be too high to visit the tide pools, but the bluff above
offers a majestic view of the cove and syncline developed below,
millions of years ago. If we are lucky there is a chance to view a
rattlesnake den under the bridge on the way back.
Meet at the Bluff
Trailhead, 200 yards south of Visitor Center at Montana de Oro State
Park.
